Kanpur is the largest city in the state of Uttar pradesh.It is also a major business and commercial centre on the Ganges.Kanpur stands as one of the North India's major industrial centers with its own historical, religious and commercial importance. Kanpur was originally known as "Kanhpur" .Kanpur is also famous for its educational centre. Kanpur is the birth place of Shyamlal Gupta 'Parshad', composer of the famous patriotic ditty ' Vijayee Vishwa Tiranga Pyara'.

History :-
Kanpur is situated on the bank of holy river Ganga.It has its relevence to the Medival period .It is believed that on the festival of Janmasthami King of Sachendi, Hindu Singh, established on the bank of river Ganga, a village then called "Kanhapur" and this name was written in English by the British as a "Cawnpore" and later got its present words Kanpur.I ts also believed that King Kanhadev of the famous Chandel Dynasty stablished the village called Kanhapur which later turned into Kanpur.It is said that Lord Brahma performed the Ashwamegha Yagya,after he created the universe , the horse of the yagya was sacrificed at a place called Bithoor, 14 miles away from Kanpur. Up to the first half of the 18 th century Kanpur continued to survive as an insignificant village.In may 1765, the Shuja ud daula, the nawab wazir of Awadh was defeated by the british near jajmau
